Trying again with Ducklings!

Good luck with your adventure! I opted for ducks instead of chickens..

(nothing against chickens, just ducks sounded more suitable and less issues overall) I was cautioned about the eggs not being as plentiful.. omg i have eggs everywhere! seriously, I have way more than I know what to do with. I need to start selling some. It's insane.. i basically got eggs all winter.. with few breaks.

Now they are brooding babies.. i knew of 'chicken math' but apparently this applies to ducks too.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing just ducks too! Keeping the Serama for fun, but selling the layers. But.. I have a couple favorites, so then I was thinking about building a small coop for 3, and giving the old one to baby ducks for growing them out.

All I've done for now is I stopped buying hatching eggs of layer type chickens. Haven't bought any in a year. May sell them all once they get 2 years old.

BUT.. sometimes my stomach doesn't like just duck eggs, so I cut it with one chicken egg. With the Serama, two of theirs would equal the one... and I can't hatch everything they lay, so I don't "need" the layer group once the itty-bittys start going.
