We've had some bad storms here in SW Florida but my sturdy coop is still standing. So I'm trying again.
Ian drowned my hens (and should have drowned me!).
Five new RIRs are doing fine. I'm making plans for the next flood.
Glad to be back to pick your brains.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

How high did the water get? Did they drown in the coop? How awful that they drowned! I guess the best chance they have is to be temporarily moved indoors if (when) you get hit again.

The wind was 155 mph and the water rose so fast I climbed into the attic.
Yeah, I know - dumb move - should have left the house hours before. "Go bag" was packed and cat was in the carrier. I'm talking really rapid flooding.
It came so quickly, I don't think they had a chance to get on the inside roost.
Local expert suggests a wooden pallet inside the upper coop level so if the water reaches that high again, they can float up.
We flooded during two of last year's storms. Nobody will be in the house!

Hi, :frow we're glad you didn't drown and very sad you lost your flock. But also glad you're trying again and wishing you better results this time. Have a big crate ready to put them in if you get evac orders again! We'll be happy to see pics of your chicks when you get started. :hugs
