trying to break a broody with no wire cage

Send your broody to me. I promise you the minute she sets foot on this farm her broody spell will be broken. It's worked real well for my 14 hens so far.

OK, so what do you do to break the "broody spell"???

Sorry, it was a joke. I have 14 LF brahma hens, a breed known to go broody, but mine won't and it frustrates the daylights outta me! A couple of them play at going broody from time to time, but get over it too quickly.
There are some good threads on breaking a broody if you want to do a search.

If I were your hen, I think I would have run away by now !!! She certainly seems to be committed. I bet she would make an incredible Mom....but that is probably not what you want to hear. I have always been able to take them off the nest several times a day and eventually they give up. Hope yours gives up soon....

Some are just more determined to brood than others. Some are more easily diverted than others. See if you can borrow a cage from someone, or check your local FreeCycle or Craigslist. I have a salvaged parrot cage, heavy wire on a wire stand, that is our Broody Buster.
