Hi
I am doing research in hopes of purchasing my first tiny flock of chickens this spring. I'm looking for something about med sized that lays well is hearty (east tennessee has some frosty winters) and pretty friendly as I have a 3 year old and would love to share this experience with her. I do prefer the idea of cross breeds any suggestions would be wonderful! breeds that go well together in a flock? breeds that shouldnt mix generally? or very aggressive breeds?

I suggest starting out with Black Australorps and Buff Orpingtons. They are very docile, and lay lots of eggs. Not to mention they are a medium-large size, and make good offspring that lay well. Hope this helps! I'd research them and see if they fit your needs and goals. Hope this helps!

I personally like Salmon Faverolles. I have never known a mean one. I have young grandchildren and although they are too far away to visit often, I will NOT keep a mean bird!
