Okay, if I don't get an answer here, I may have to post a new thread. Question: With those cheapie little thermometers that come with the LGs, you are supposed to make the thermometer even with the top of the eggs. Is that what you should do with one of those gauges we've been talking about? How do you guys put them in your bators AND how many of you put your eggs in egg cartons for the duration?
First off I would throw away the thermometer that came with the LG incubator, they are worthless, mine was 7 degrees off. I would get a Humidity reader/thermometer. I like the Accurite I got at Walmart. I put mine inside the bator and made sure I could read it threw the window. I also had another reliable thermometer I put in there to make sure they were reading pretty close to the same. Keep it between 99.5-102 no higher, I kept mine at 100.5-101 and did have dips to 99-98 some nights and I had 89.5% hatch. I did let mine get to 102 to much, made me nervous it would spike while I wasn't looking. Hope this helps.
Ellen, This is where I keep my Accurite and Sprinfield gauges, in the back of the bator. I take the turner out on the evening of day 18 and just set my eggs on the wire, some people use cartons, I don't. The little cheap temp gauge with the bator is suppose to be on top of the egg, I threw mine away along time ago. lol
Yes, In my pic the temps and humidity are off on both gauges as I had just set eggs and placed the gauges to take the pic.
Oh, thanks Sandy!!! (I hope I remembered your name right!)
How nice to see pics and all. How do you attach the gadgets to the incubator and do you think I should get two? If so, should I use two different brands or does that matter? Thanks again!!!
Mine are just placed in the back of the bator on the wire, nothing to attach. I always use two, one might read alittle lower than the other but as long as they are in a good range and not to high I do not worry and get great hatch rates. Either brand gives me a good reading.
