Trying to find Merrick's Vaccine

lilcrow, you can still give them the vaccine. I've even vaccinated 4-5 mo old birds. Others here have vaccinated birds of other ages. If a bird is already exposed, then vaccinating may not help - but it can't hurt anything either. In the case of chicks, I keep them separated anyway - many times they're a couple weeks old before I get around to vaccinating.
I continue to keep them separaed for 10 more days after vaccinating since it's supposed to take that long for the vac to work.

ETA: yellowrose, I normally order from jefferslivestock.com, but they're out.

Kim, you're 100 percent right, I waited last year to vaccinate ALL of my birds, no way was I going to spend a small fortune vaccinating mixed ages. Here's the article that swayed me to wait. Hope this helps someone!! I'll be doing the same thing again this year.

Thanks for the link....good read. I was happy to see his comments on oxine. I use it and love the stuff. I also split the vaccine into quarters as he suggests in the last paragraph. Another BYC member had shared that idea previously....great money saver, vaccine goes a lot further.

I was going to continue with the quotes, but I was afraid it was going to get too confusing; however it was tempting as it is fun to get creative with those.

Anyway.................
Kim, I couldn't agree more with you about the article from Twin City, fascinating and VERY helpful reading. Wish there were more folks that would share secrets like this. Big Medicine told me about that just a day or so ago after I let him know that I had received the vaccine, and also offered to help me vaccinate my two broods when I'm ready which should be a couple of weeks. He's the guy that has developed the Silver Laced and Blue Laced Red Brahmas, a nicer man you'll never meet. He's saved the lives of several of my chickens and he's one of those folks that is extremely intelligent and also very wise, but doesn't brandish it around. He's a very understated kind of guy in some ways.
I just can't say enough about how much he knows, he's a regular chicken guru.

Well, enough for the Big Medicine Admiration Society.

Now, about Victor at Twin City and being in TROUBLE with me.

I might forgive him since I did tell him that the babies were due to hatch the end of the week and it would be TOO LATE if it didn't come in by Monday, so I may have set myself up to get left out.

Victor is another person that I have found to be extremely helpful and willing to share what he knows, or at least he's answered my questions so far. I know there are folks that are stingy with their information, I just haven't run into them yet.
