Keep in mind chain link is not predator proof. You will want to cover it with 1/2 inch hardware cloth...not chicken wire.

"Predator proof" depends on the predator.

Chain link is great against dog-sized predators (which might rip through hardware cloth).

Chain link is useless against small things like weasels, it lets chickens stick their heads out to get bitten, and it lets raccoons reach their paws in to grab pieces of chicken.

I agree that 1/2 inch hardware cloth is a good addition--small enough holes to keep the little pests out.

Welcome to BYC. NatJ. is totally correct about chain link & raccoons. I think they are no.1 predators of chickens and most horrible ones. If they don't kill them they maim them so badly (eating pieces of them) that they have to be put down .
