I have been a smoker for 30 years. Today is only day 2 without a cigarette and I'm having a hard time with it. I already dumped all the ashtrays and washed them because I knew I would be looking around for a nice butt. And I have.
I had my DD go get some patches for me, and she accidentally got the step 2, But I don't think they would really help much anyway.
I have tried to quit once before but this time I want to succeed.
I have a friend in the hospital that is almost 10 years younger than me, and she is dying from COPD. If that isnt motivation I dont know what is.

Good luck!!!

Think of the money you will save, besides all the health benefits of quitting.

One guy I used to work with said he figured he could make a payment on a car he wanted with what he spent on cigarettes monthly. He quit cold turkey and bought the car.

Well I haven't ever smoked cig's so I can't really give you personal advice but I will be sending prayers and good thoughts your way ~ Just hang in there, you can do it!!

BTW ~ Your avatar is SO CUTE!

I quit 13 years ago. It was health related and had smoked everything going earlier on.
Using the nicotine patch, stay on the level that you need, not what someone else needed, this is you, you may only need a shorter span, but just keep that in mind.
Also, pick up a straw and inhale through it, also give 3 good deeeeeeep breaths, hold it and slowly exhale. Now that your not smoking, you don't have a reason to breath deep! That was what I found.
Another thing, get menthol cough drops. When you get into the car, start the car...what was the first thing you did? Light up. So unwrap, put wrapper away and inhale deeply!

What weight you gain is still healthier then what you are doing to your lungs.
Yes I still have times when I feel I need to smoke, I get ice water and sip through a straw. Its doing something with your hands and oral gratification.
I still have a few cravings, but only the oral gratification, wanting something to do.

And last...(phew your all saying!) is, if you should pick one up again, do not let anyone shame you, do not shame yourself. Just begin again on your plan. Practice makes perfect. Remember that.

The cig tax went up again, and a pack is around 6 bucks each!
One pack a day is 42 dollars a week.
on an average month thats 186.00
In a year I will save 2232.00!

I just quit this last november. I used chantix. I have never had a medicine actually help me out before but this really did! Its funny because I have had one or two since then and it is horrible! My husband on the other hand is still struggling and he also took chantix. Once you quit you have to want to stay quit because all ex-smokers are always one cigerette away from starting up again.

I quit 9 years ago. One more day, one more day, one more day. You can always make it one more day. Day 3 is the hardest anyhow, get stubborn stick to it get though tomorrow and remember it's always one more day. You will feel like a million bucks eventually.
