So Isaac is a PIA dumping rain on us. Makes chores not so fun with the super soft ground and driving winds. We have everyone out right now, but soon will be locking them back up again. Before yesterday we had multiple alerts from the roosters and the LGD since last Thursday. Never saw anything when walking around. We did go ahead and run the 6' high fencing along the south side of the yard before it breaks off into the pasture.

Rain let up earlier today enough for me to get rounds done and let the birds out. As I walked the fence line a large bobcat jumped out and moved back into the high grass and scrub brush. So now the male Pyrenees is on high alert even in this awful rain.

Thank goodness you have the guardian dogs. Are you going to set out any traps? Hopefully, the rain will move away from you soon.

The darned thing is still supposed to be headed right over me late Tues...early Wed. Hurricane Hunters just found Cat. 1 winds and pressures. I feel bad for those in coastal areas: This is a big storm and going to be pushing A LOT of water ahead of it.

I hope you all and your flocks will be safe.

Luckily we are far away from any lakes, rivers, or bayous that get storm surge, which looks like the biggest problem for this storm. We live about an hour north of New Orleans, very near the Mississippi border.

During the first year we lived here we went through Gustav (2008) so got to see where water pooled and how our property drained. We spent the next two years moving and bringing in dirt. My husband has sloped all our property and we now have great drainage: The original pond is part of the system so it gets completely flushed out during high rainfall events.

All we really have to worry about here is the wind and any accompanying tornadoes: A trio of them jumped over our house and caused damage to three of our neighbors during Gustav. Katrina took most of the weak trees by the house down and we cut a few more. We have one we need to top tomorrow morning. We were going to do it today, but I managed to fall this morning (toe just barely caught an obstruction and down I went...boom) and very nearly broke my arm...so spent the day laying in the recliner going...OUCH.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. I am sure everyone here and all our critters will be fine. At least I know we won't be without power very long: The local power company sets up a staging area a mile from my house during storms and the supplies are kept there as well. One thing I can tell you for sure though...once the wind calms and we have all the extra water and creeks on the property...the ducks are going to have a party!

I hope everyone out where the drought is so bad get at least some good rain out of all of this.

Rain...rain...rain..here also, glad I live on a hill...lol... but the dirt roads are not fun. Ducks and geese are loving it...everyone else is semi putting up with it. Glad I have five GPs to watch out in this mess.....

all put up for another day again. Chickens were miffed at the weather, goats never came out at all.

Moved the dog house to a new spot so he was under a hoop house for extra protection. Our female GP has joined him outside for the night, will have to bath her again before she rejoin hubby as his service dog. The GP puppy is coping well with the weather and so wanted to join the chase into the brush today. Glad the heavy rain is about done if not done now for us.

MrsMagoo, hope the winds stay calm for you and no tornadoes come your way.
