TSC bantam breed???

To me, it looks like his tail feathers are kind of curling down. Are they? If so, he might be a Cochin. I don't know much about chicken breeds but I have a hen and roo whose tails curl under and I was told that they're Cochins. Your roo also has feathered feet like my Cochins do.

brahmas have feathered feet, and his tail feathers are barley coming in. Ive seen alot of brahmas with curled down tails, But The differnce between brahmas and cochins is the comb. To me this guy looks like his is crossed between a pea comb and a single comb. He Could be a cross. Or you Could Be right and he just a hatchery white cochin. LOL

I would say he's a hatchery quality cochin with a messed up comb. He's definitely not a brahma based on his body conformation, and the amount of feathering on his legs (even a good quality brahma doesn't have that much). Massive amounts of leg-fluff is all Cochin.

My guess is that the comb will grow in strangely, in an accordian manner as the overly large flesh at the base inhibits the growth of the flesh at the top. I don't think it's a result of cross-breeding, but rather a genetic defect that should have been culled for, but the hatchery isn't being very fastidious with their breeding program.

ohh ok that does make since. He does have alot of foot feathering, more than a brahma should. and I bet he is a cochin with a defect. Will it pass on to chicks if it is a defect?? maybe i shouldnt use him for breeding if it does. i have Two White cochin hens i could put him with. but if its genetic maybe i wont

Yes, it would likely be passed on. You shouldn't use him for breeding with as questionable a background as he has, especially if you plan to sell or show the offspring.

I would wait and see how his comb develops before breeding. Since you're not planning on showing him, and your backyard flock is just for fun, your breeding concerns should be focused towards health.

If his comb develops in such a way that it inhibits his quality of life (covers his eyes or something), then don't breed him. If it just makes him look like a funky chicken, and he's got a good temperament that you'd like to pass on to chicks, then by all means go for it.
