Ours has a four chick minimum. Last year it was a six chick minimum. That is because where I live if a chicken is under 10 weeks old you have to buy at least four last year it was six. I guess there was a problem with people buying just one or two chicksto be cute at Easter and not thinking of the fact that you actually have to take care of them. So the amount they will sell you at once maybe because of rules in your area. I’m glad you got your chicks Though. I recently got ISA chicks and they are the Friendliest out of the bunch I got. I had one that just said on my shoulder while I cleaned all their cages

And just so you know for future reference I noticed that Myers hatchery depending on the breed will sell as little as one chick. So you can order how many you want from them and from what I understand they have a very good reputation. Thinking about using them next year to get my hard to find breeds

Some of our feed stores in Tucson, AZ stopped all chick sales during Easter so that the clueless idiots wouldn't buy one for little Suzie or Johnny, not knowing how to take care of it (if it lives that long) and ends up crowing.

Our ACE Hardware stores carry chicks (females only) and I think they get them from Ideal or Privett hatcheries. They discount them once they get a little bigger since they weren't sold as chicks.

It totally bites my butt that people won't do some research on a $3.00 chicken, but will gladly do so when they pay $1,200 for that purebred AKA puppy.

They are pets (with benefits) for many of us and deserve the same consideration. You're not gonna get any eggs from a damn expensive mammal.

I was thinking about getting more baby chicks from tractor supply and saw that they have a 6 purchase minimum. I was wondering if anyone would know if I can buy 3 or 4 but pay for 6. Also are tractor’s chickens vaccinated and does anyone know if the sexing of the chickens are mostly accurate there?
Thanks so much
We bought 6 SL Wy's at TSC here...they were straight run, we did the best we could to try and pick out what we thought might be females. Looking at the wing feathers, combs, tails etc. Well we got 33.333% females which is 2 of 6. We got 4 cockrels and 2 pullets. So now come the task of trying to find them homes.

Something that worked for me with silver laced victims was picking the darkest chicks. The adult males have vastly more white them the females.
I think it may work for silver laced Wyandotte too.
