I am super new to chickens and have been researching the forums for about a week now. Friday we finally made our first purchase of chickens from TSC. We bought 6 assorted bantams. One of them so far ended up with pasty butt. They are however super friendly. We also bought 3 Pekin ducks and 3 Khakis. Unfortunately the Pekins killed the Khakis (my husband even cried) But I just want to see how much success others have in raising chicks and ducks from TSC. Any advise it great thanks!

It doesn't matter where you bought them. All the retailers get their chicks from various hatcheries across the country. Trying to figure out which retailer sells the best chicks isn't usually possible It's going to depend on what stock they got from the hatchery. Just follow the general guidelines you find on here for raising chicks/ducks, or, the information pamphlet you might have picked up and you'll be fine. Sorry about your ducklings.
Welcome and good luck.

And good luck with the chicks!

I just got a few chicks labeled as Red Pullets. Does anyone know what breed they might be?

I've had great luck with chicks from TSC. Out of 32 I've only lost one. The red pullets at my store are usually red sex links. All of mine have been Red Stars and they are big babies and havent stopped laying since they started late summer of last year. I must warn you, they are addictive. A month ago I had 12 chickens, I now have 38

OH don't I know it! My husband wanted nothing to do with birds because we have cats. Now he is doting over the ducks like they are babies (which they are) and he actually encouraged me to buy 6 more chicks from TSC last night. Hence why I now have red pullets. We also bought 1 Leghorn pullet and 1 barred plymouth (sex unknown). I think 12 chicks and 3 ducks is my limit. Oh and the cats want nothing to do with the birds. Weird. I need to take my bantam pics over to the forum for identification. They sure are cute! Oh and thank you for the information!

I bought the red pullets from them last year and they are good layers. They lay large brown eggs. But as MeatNeggs2012 said... it is addictive!!! I bought more chicks and added ducks this year.
