TSC - Funny Story

Agreed.
The first time I saw one it was in my friend's brooder, she was quick to tell me what it was.

I immediately thought someone had bred a guinea and a chicken... Then, let that chicken bred with a vulture... Then, scalped it's neck. I was horrified at the thought of the trauma the hens must have gone through

Ahh man! You're killing me. I picked up two more Turken chicks today because of their adorableness! Who can't love that little face?

Oh, the face is fine, it's when you get to the neck....

We have about 40 wild turkeys that come out every morning and every afternoon in my pasture. I must say that I hope the chicken part of the Turken wises them up a bit. The turkeys in my pasture actually make special appearances during thunder/rain storms and some actually drown because they stare straight up at the rain!

I am assuming by your comment about "chicken part" that you are under the assumption that a Turken is part turkey-part chicken. It is actually all chicken. If a turkey and chicken were to mate, their eggs would not be viable. A Turken is just a breed of chicken that was originally bred in Hungary, what for I don't know!

If I am wrong about my assumption, I apologize.

we have a turken chick too i think "she" looks like a little ostrich chick she's pretty cute my little banty shiver loves to lay across her little necked neck when they sleep it's so cute. my daughter wants to enter Xena at the fair this year(very tiny rural community) and I told her that she may need to pick another one because i'm not sure how many people around here have actually seen a Turken and they may think something is wrong with her

Oh darlin, I was teasing! The Turken is also known as a Naked neck chicken. There's a dominant gene that causes the naked neck. It's supposedly easy to introduce to other chicken breed, but I certainly wouldn't try. They look like I should knit them a scarf or something.

They are great for eggs and meat I hear, especially because they are easier to pluck. All my chickens and even the wild turkeys are considered pets, so this really wouldn't interest me. Ya know that saying, "A face that only a mother could love? I believe this holds true with the Turkens. Just my 2 cents.
