TSC has a minimuim of 24 ducks!

Those silkies look so lovely! I am head over heels about my runners, though!

I (looks furtively around before spilling the beans) sing them a lullaby at night.

LOL. I love the look of runners, so I added 4. I order their SQ Silkys and Runners, so can't wait to see how they grow up!

I just plain don't sell ducks before Easter. I can see how that's not feasible for TSC, and they will probably lower their minimum after Easter. I agree that it might be worth while to chat with the manager a bit and see if you can get an exception. I'm glad they're committed to preventing the Easter duckling horror purchases. But I can see how it's frustrating if you just want a few for a flock. Maybe you can see if there are local breeders expecting a hatch soon? Good luck!

Ummm most states have a 2 minimum. maybe a typ. I have talked to many TSc's..............................

That's very odd... Unless I missed an important email at work, I think someone gave you mis-information?? Minimum is 2 ducks. If a policy like that would've changed it would've been all TSC's, as far as I know, and I haven't seen anything come through to us about it... I'd definitely ask a manager about that. They won't sell any if they're trying to sell the whole lot at the same time!

The lady said the its something the state has decided to do. I mean in a way I am happy about it because I dont want to see anything bad happen to the poor little buggers but in a way I think the minimum is a little too much. You know? I dont know, I just thought it was odd and so, I thought you guys would like to know.

Yeah 24 is crazy... I've got 5 now and 3 on the way and that's a lot of duck (esp. with everything else we have and is on the way). But, still good to see an attempt to block the "Easter" purchases. I think I'll be posting on my facebook about a week after Easter offering to take in any wayward ducks, chicks, and rabbits that people will inevitably buy for their kids.

sunny & the 5 egg layers :

What state is this? Maybe you and other BYC'ers in the state might want to write your politicians, explaining nicely that 24 ducklings are way more than competent hobbyists would normally buy.

Six is a reasonable minimum standard, in my opinion. 24 is ridiculous--and just asking for someone to buy and then dump the unwanteds. One reason to buy locally is that you don't have to worry about shipping minimums--but most shipping minimums are 10 birds, so 24 is way higher. Six is always the minimum at our TSC, and it makes a great deal of sense to me. Dunno--the employee probably has no real clue about the reason and may be guessing. Still might be a great idea to speak with the manager. Good luck!

TSC used to have 2 ducks minimum requirement, if they up it, well it is going to be good for ducks.

I am sick of people buying single ducks for toys, Easter, or "pets" then dumping them.

TSC displays sign pertaining to all poultry hatchlings they carry, the sign reads:

SOLD ONLY FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES.

I support that.

If you want ducks or chicks for Easter, for your temporary whim, or for your spoiled kids or just "pets" that's TOO BAD.

Look elswhere or hatch your own.
