Thanks for the tip in re to hardware cloth, I'll definitely have to do that. The last thing I need is for my kids to be traumatized by headless chickens in their coop!

Yeah, I have no idea why dh actually enjoyed building the coop, weirder things have happened

"As chickens' feet are not the same as other birds, I would not use limbs but use the 4" side up on a 2 x 4. As they like to sit on their feet with them flat."

I disagree, Chickens will naturally roost in trees. Well that's actually my whole argument.

In cold weather, it is good to have them roost on the flat side of a 2" x 4" but if given the choice, all the chickens that I have ever seen have chosen branch over 2" x 4".

Thanks for all the tips, we do have some extra 2*4 in our pole barn, so if needed, we'll install those.

That is what I was hoping for in regards to the glass door, its going to be a p-i-a to clean, but it faces East and I'm hoping it will give them quite a bit of heat and light in the Winter. Then in the summer, I can crack it and have a nice cross breeze.

Thanks again!

I'll mention the 2*4 thing to dh so he can fix it. I don't care if they poo all over it, its covered in leno so I can clean it easily, I thought they would enjoy a seat by the window. I forgot about having something in the front to keep my shavings in...dh is gonna love me

Yeah, I have NO idea what got into him...I'm tempted to start adding things up around the house for him to do since he's on such a "roll"
