Tumour? Cancer? Infection?

We will not be taking her to the vet, and I am not sure if I can buy duramycin at the feed store. Is there something else comparable? And what strength?

If she were mine I would try letting the air or fluid out with a hypodermic needle before I put her down. My guess is you will get air, from the eye bubbles. It is possible that if you let it out every day or so she will recover on her own. It's just a guess, though.

Poor baby! I think I'd try duramycin as well. I think some things respond specifically to certain antibiotics. Maybe penicillin isn't the right one for this particular ailment.

Good luck with her, she looks so pitiful

I know it must hurt you to see her this way too.

ETA My local TSC has duramycin in powder form for about $4.

Yeah, the states TSC is alot better than the one in Canada. Unfortunately, it is ove an hour away across the border.

We did stick a needle in the swollen part, --blood came out.

Usually antibiotics are specific to treat certain types of bacteria so penicillin may not be helpful for what ever is the problem. It does look like an infection, though. Poor thing.
I do recall recent posts related to swollen face -- I'll try to find it.

Ok, I just located a few links, and although the birds do not look even close to being as bad as my little girl is, they recomend duramycin or tylan. Unless anyone has any other suggestions, I will look for these tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to get one of them.

most feed store do carry duramycin. the directions are on the package. Im thinking it was a teaspoon in a gallon of water. Change the water daily. By the way my vet had me treat all chickens that was in the same coop as him and if you have layers not to eat the eggs for a week after treatment.

I'm wondering about an over growth of yeast; its usually related to the digestive system but is found where there's mucus. It won't hurt to include some yogurt or apple cider vinegar in her diet, especially since she's been on antibiotics. I wish I knew more about this to be able to help you.
