I have a turken roo and four silkie hens. Can I eventually hatch out showgirls. I don't know or understand the genetics of this mix. I still have found the right book for Dummies on it either. If anyone has experience PLEASE share.
I have access to silkie roo and turken hens..... what should I do?

I just got my first book on chickens
the naked Neck/Turken entry read something to the extent that the naked neck is a dominant feature.
So as to genetics: You have (generally) two genes of a like sort. SO neck feathering for example.
If the trait is recessive, you need two copies of the gene to be expressed in the individual.
In a dominant trait, one is needed.
So, depending on how purebred the roo is, you may get naked neck silkies.
If he is homozygous. If he is heterozygous, you have (in each egg) a 50/50 chance of a turken silky or a regular one.
I am not sure though what a Turken roo could add to a silky. Aside from the bare neck.
I am not familiar with chicken genetis, so I could not tell you how an outd=cross like that would affect the silkiness of the offspring.

I think, just like how frizzles sometime will come out smooth, show girls may not be so show-y.

I hatched out a NN last April from eggs I got from MT. The dad was a NN and the mom was a silky. Below to the right front is the NN/silky

behind view. The one to the right. He ended up smooth feathered.

Thank you very much

I can't find much on showing them. Are they considered their own breed? A mixed or hybrid? Can you show a showgirl at poultry shows?
I am not the person to ask, I am afraid. I ask those questions myself, as I wish to support my small county fair. as far as I can tell, the only chicken shows around her - or poultry I should say - are either kids/4H or from the bantam club.
The poster above said they are a breed, I am sure there is a show for them - somewhere.....

The first generation will all be smooth feathered. These chicks will all be recessive for the silkied feathered gene. It will take several generations of breeding back to a Silkie to get a bird that resembles a Showgirl.🙂
