Turkens

Yes, at 8 weeks three are for sure boys and one girl...just like my TSC picking. I did see a one feather fluff on that one white cockerel. Still, he’s gorgeous.

NN are so ugly they’re cute as chicks. But they are really some of the healthiest chickens. They seem to be more resistant to a lot of illnesses that other breeds aren’t.

I’ll be honest in why I chose a few NN. I knew that I would eventually be slaughtering chickens and was unsure of exactly where the jugular that I would be cutting was. And with the NN you can literally see everything under their skin, especially as chicks. I know that sounds terrible, but I wanted to know so I wouldn’t blunder around when the time came. Ironically, the first bird I ever had to slaughter was my white NN. He was beautiful and rightfully named Pretty Boy Floyd, aka PBF, but he was a serial rapist that was he!!bent on becoming my resident chicken marauder. Then his attention turned toward me. Not cool! Not cool at all!

We made amends and he tasted even better than he looked.

I don't plan on eating any of my chickens. 3 of them will go live on a farm and the other two will lay eggs. I'm going to get new babies later
And that is totally fine. Everyone is different and that’s what makes us a wonderful community.

You will see this is the place to be! You will learn more and laugh more than you ever thought possible! I love everything about BYC! And you will too.

Welcome to the chicken club! :frow

I leave dry crumble out for them all the time. In the colder months I will feed them a warm wet mash (made from their dry food) that they will eat on along through the day, in addition to their dry crumbles. When the mash is gone it’s gone till the next morning.

Thank you I'll keep that in mind
