Turkens?

Thank you for this info about it. I know this isn’t my thread but this is so very helpful for my similar issue. I may post an “identify my chick” on my turkens to see what they could be cross-wise. Their legs are pretty huge and their growth rate is surprising but hopefully aren’t cornish x (super newbie here!) so we can elongate their lives if possible as long as possible.
You're welcome. I'm learning along with the others in this thread. I feel like the hatcheries just kind of sprang this on us, and now it is time to start trying to figure out just what these new hybrids are and how to tell them apart from regular Naked Necks. It's going to be a work in progress.

Metzer Farms is also selling the Pioneer chicken, and there is a little more information on their website than on Meyer's. These are bred naturally and have been selected naturally over several generations. They are dual purpose, and capable of being good layers. They were bred from Delawares, Cornish x, and Naked Necks.

That one would absolutely explain the markings on one of my two. Its markings are very Delaware-y. 🤔 The growth rate is definitely accelerated, but if it's possible they can be layers... Here's hoping we can work out them constantly eating! I feel like it'll be a little easier once they're out of the brooder and able to run around in the yard plenty. I think a field trip is due soon. Thanks so much for this info!

You're welcome. I think they will just be large chickens, but not monstrous like Cornish cross.
