Turkey breed that is right for me.

i want a nice/gentle turkey breed that lay lots of eggs and that goes broody in between 1-2 Times a year.

Ps I won't eat them and they will free rang. Also, can all turkey breeds fly?

You want a heritage variety of turkey.


Yes all the heritage breeds can fly quite well.

Asking which variety of turkey is the best is an opinion. Cause everyone will have a favorite.

If you want a smaller turkey that I think is the best looker go for royal palms. They are gentle but can be a bit flighty.

If you want a bigger bird look at bourbon reds, blue slates, and bronzes.

Almost all if raised right will be gentle as a house pet.

I have to agree regarding Royal Palms. My poults are UBER friendly. They hop up on my lap to be petted and cuddled every time I'm in the pen. They're comical and will grow into beauties as well. All around, GREAT choice.
