Hello! I am new to the group. I'm from Ohio. I have 1 pair, (of what I thought were chocolate heritage turks) but after having their markings viewed by some of the big chocolate breeders I have ran across, they aren't true chocolates. I don' love them any less, but I am in a pickle. I have been hatching eggs from them and have 3 so far that I've hatched out. I have 2 hatch out silver, and only one chocolate. I am thinking they are lavenders, lilacs or blue slate color. It' shocking to me because I have no idea my turkeys gene pool. I'm so thrilled of this crazy adventure! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Parents are also posted for guesses of what could be in their gene pool.

The tom appears to be a Barred Chocolate but may have more going on there as he is darker than what I would expect from a Barred Chocolate. It would not surprise me if the hen was the same.

Your first poult does look to be a Chocolate and mating a pair of Barred Chocolates can produce a Chocolate. What they can also produce is more Barred Chocolates and Auburns.

I can guarantee you that the images you posted are not Lavender, Lilac or Blue Slate poults.

I am confident that Kevin Porter of Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys can identify them for you.

Thank you! I have never heard of an auburn. I assumed with them being so grey, that was the coloring.
I'd really like to know so I'm not false advertising. I will try and email porters. Although, I may just keep these hatchlings to see what they grow up to be.

The slate color gene (D) is a dominant color gene and will be exhibited even when there is only one present (Dd). You can't produce slates without having the slate gene present. Your turkeys do not exhibit any slate so do not have the slate gene to pass on to the poults. Lavenders (DD), Lilacs (DD) and Blue Slate (Dd) are all based on the dominant slate gene.

There are also Silver Auburns

There is a recessive slate gene (sl) but to my knowledge, only Porter has any of those in the U.S.
