My tom turkey can't gobble. When he tries to gobble, he sounds hoarse or like he's lost his voice. He also makes this noise that sounds like he is congested. We have had 70-80 degree weather that changes to snow within 24 hours and the temps are 30s one day and 70s the next so I'm sure that's not helping. Is there anything I can do for him?

No it isn't. I sold those 3 hens shortly after that post. My turkeys are pets and those were a butcher breed. This tom has been healthy until recently. He sounds a little better today but still is not 100%. He acts normal. Struts around constantly and is as active as always. Just has no "voice". He looks fine as well. Any ideas?

I'd suspect transmission of respiratory illness. I'd probably go with a course of Tylan 50 to see if that didn't clear it up.

Good luck!

Please check this thread for usage.https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/600255/where-do-i-inject-tylan50-into-my-turkey

Tylan is usually carried at feedstores and is available for order on the web. However, this is assuming that the poor guy got this from the hens. It could be something else. I'd suspect Mycoplasma G., from your description of hens in your other thread. If the Tylan is effective, and it is MG then he'll be healthy, but will remain a carrier of the disease.

I looked up Mycopllasma G and he doesn't really have any of those symptoms except the "cough". He doesn't have any drainage or sinus swelling or anything. He acts completely normal except not having a "voice". He still follows me around like a puppy and goes after the dogs as usual so has his normal energy level. Ill see if my feed store has any tylan and try it but if that doesn't work, any other thoughts on what it might be? My vet doesn't see turkeys and when I asked for names of people that do they said they would look in to it and they never called me back.

If he's acting like a healthy turkey, otherwise, then it might be something mechanical (anything from something `stuck' to odd anatomy to tumor - hard to say). If you listen closely to his breathing and hear no gurgling/wheezing, etc. when he's just standing around relaxed, then don't worry about it.

However, does he only make this sound ONLY when he's displaying and strutting? If so, the `chuff' `chuff' `chuff' is normal.

May I ask an opinion from you?
I am fairly sure my Blue Slate turkey is a boy. He doesn't gobble though. He really looks and acts like a boy.....
