Turkey coop?

I like that!

I'm slowly building a coop with half of two sides covered only with bug mesh. I might have to cover it on those occasional chilly or windy nights when we have newly hatched poults but most of the time a fully enclosed coop would be too hot, even at night time.

I'm interested in the roof. Does it keep out the rain? I'm planning on a double pitch roof covered with grass panels. We have a garden gazebo roofed in the same way and it works well. However, it would be easier to use banana and palm leaves if that would keep out the rain and the mosquitoes.

Looking at everyones pictures and reading the needs of turkeys helps me out a lot. I have 2 BB turkeys for thanksgiving (short lived) but I will have to cover the second section of the coop and put a roosting bar up. My chickens roost at 4' now and refuse to roost lower. Ill post pictures someday. When I finish it.

Thanks for the info

IF any one has problems with there Turkeys straying far away from the Pen let out only half or a little more each day to free range this has worked for me they like to stay together as a flock that and some training as well and yes you can train a Turkey.
I make Biscuits often and any left overs I feed to the Chickens and Turkeys.
If we see them stray a little to far for there own good we go out the back door and yell for them and throw out Biscuit's or left overs and now most of the time we don't even have to yell for them they hear the back screen door slam and they come a running this works with chickens as well.

This is my turkey coop/duck coop (I have 2 of the same). It is made out of 5 pallets and tin siding! It is 54"x30"! Do I need bedding or will the hardware cloth floor suffice?

Id personally give them some thick pine shaveings as the urine and wet poop will saturate the wood floor and be a wet stinky mess in 3 days. Not fun to clean. Raking out the wet soiled bedding will be much easier and will absorb the mess so you can clean it out less often. I had ducks, oh what a mess they made in their house LOL very cute and sweet little pets but wish I had a little pond for them to stay in. Good luck. House looks great. Great idea useing pallets. Are there any places that sell turkey chicks locally? I have looked online. Most hatcheries require a 15 minimum. I only want 4 (probably 2 males & 2 females) We live in Port Charlotte Florida.

One of our local feed stores has to have a minimum of 20 turkeys to order so they will put down your turkey order on a wait list. As soon as there's a total of 20 they order. If you get your order down in the early months it's pretty much guaranteed you can get them. Worth checking the feed/ country stores to see if they do that.

I have a BBB and she sleeps in a dog house. She'd obviously love to perch but can't fly. I have yet to figure out a way to make her a safe perch. The chicken coop is large enough for her but since she fell off the ramp a few weeks ago, she's back to sleeping in her dog house. I plan on getting some more (non-breasted) turkey's this year and converting a old shed into their coop. In my very novice experience as long as there is a perch and wind/snow block I really don't think birds are that picky.
