I am totally new to turkeys. I have two bourbon red, a tom (tommy) and hen (gertie). They are last year's hatch (according to the guy I got them from). I've had them since mother's day of this year.

Several weeks ago, the people who were taking care of our animals (we were in another state cause my brother was in hosp in critical condition) called to say they found the hen setting on a nest of eggs. Sure enough, when we got home, she was on 10 eggs.

How long do turkey eggs take to hatch? She was found setting on them on July 17. That will be 4 weeks this coming Thursday.

I had seen the tom breeding her before that. Heck, he was on her several times the day I brought them home.

I did try to search the net for information about how long it takes for eggs to hatch and found so many different answers. Some said 21 days, some said 28 days and other places had longer for hatching. One thing they all had in common was to say that not all the eggs will hatch, only part of eggs laid and sat on hatch.

When do I start being concerned that none are going to hatch? And what do I do with them if they don't hatch. (save them for halloween for houses of neighbors I don't like?

28 days for turkeys 21 for chicken. Just hatched some blue slates a month ago.

4/10 were out on day 28, 2 more on day 29, 2 pipped but died, and 2 never pipped. I waited until the end of day 30 before tossing the last 2.

Hens can do a good job or a complete failure. Even with turkeys you can't count the poults before they hatch. One of my hen sat on 24 eggs and hatched 21. Some of those days she sat in the snow keeping the eggs warm. The biggest problem I have is peditors while they sit on the eggs and after they hatch. If I find the hens sitting, I will take the eggs and hatch them myself. It works better for me that way.
