Was just reading on another thread of using turkey feed for the Cornish X's. Will this be good for any meat chickens? I have freedom rangers. They are about 6 weeks old. Right now just feeding them Dumor chick starter from TSC. I'm not sure what the % of protein is. They are actually at a friends house being raised with her 100+!! I don't have the feed bag here to check. Will ask her to check it, but in the meantime, does anyone think this would be good to give them? This is my first time with meat birds. Thanks!!

On the bottom of the feed bag there should be a take where it shows you what is in it. That will tell you the feed percentage. I feed mine Dumor chick starter with 24% protein.

Thank you V-NH! I will have my friend to check on it, but it is probably the same as yours. And that is a good percentage?

There are a lot of different opinions on this. I don't worry too much about the protein percentage. I alternate between 24% chick starter from TSC and 22% meat bird feed from Agway depending on where I am when I buy it. Anything in the 20-24% range is probably fine.

My chick grower was only 15% protein and I didn't realise it. I went to a different store and bought some grower and it was 18%. I also purchased a bad of turkey grower/finisher and mixed both together. I think it really helped them gain. I didn't lose any of my meaties and this was my first attempt. I don't know if having them on a lower percentage for a while contributed to this. Mine all went to 12 weeks and dressed have all come in over 6 lbs with a couple at 7. Good luck!
