Hi there, my turkeys are now 6 weeks old, and it is time for them to come off their starter and onto grower. I went to the feed store and bought a bag
However, when i got home i read the back and it said it should be fed at 10weeks. The starter is meant to be fed up until 6 weeks. What should i feed them between 6 and 10 weeks. Can they go onto the grower early? Should i break it up a bit so it is easier to eat? Thanks.

What are the protein, lysine and methionine levels?

It won't need to be broken up as long as it isn't full sized pellets.

I can't find the details online, it only says protein. It is heygates turkey grower.
From what I see, they do not produce a quality turkey feed. If I had a choice, I would not buy their products. They list turkey starter as 26% protein. If they are skimping on the protein level, they are also skimping on the lysine, methionine and niacin levels.

They are calling their equivalent to grower feed, rearer feed. Quality feed makers only do starter and grower. There is no need to drop the protein and other essentials as low as they do for 10 week old poults.

You can feed their "grower feed" to your poults. They will survive it. They may mature a little slower.

This was the only bag the feed store sold. I think I will keep them on it for a few days whilst i get a different one delivered. Then when they finish the new bag, i will move them back to the heygates pellets and mix them in with the layers so it doesnt go to waste.

The turkey grower that I use has

lysine - 1.4%
methionine - 0.6%
The only turkey grower i can find in the UK has nowhere near that.

Sorry. It is getting harder to get good quality feed here too. The chain stores are driving the local feed stores out of business. The chain feed stores do not care about what is good for the poultry. They only care about their profit line. They make a much higher profit from poor quality feed than from top quality feed and therefore refuse to carry the top quality feed. They even go as far as lying to the customer and telling us that certain feeds have been discontinued when the manufacturer is still producing those feeds. Unfortunately the government will not force them to carry proper feeds.
