I have a flock of turkeys, 2 brothers are the Tom’s, 1 of them had a severe mite infestation, no one else had mites but I treated everyone. My problem Tom has been mite free for 2 weeks now but he is just becoming more and more lethargic. I see zero wounds, none of the other turkeys show any signs of issues. He has lost a ton of weight, I’ve put him on game bird starter but I’m at a total loss on what else I can do. It kills me bc I’m watching him slowly fade away. He has regained a little bit of color back in his head but not all, his eyelids are droopy but he has zero sores, injuries or anything like that. He is roughly 8 years old.

I've never seen mites on a turkey. At 8 he's getting up there in age, and he may be slowly failing. The mites indicate he's not grooming himself properly.

I know turkeys are said to live 12-14 years, but most of mine pass between 6-10. Since he's losing weight my guess is there's some sort of organ failure going on. Not sure there's anything you can do unfortunately. A vet may be helpful, but not sure. Sorry.

I had a rooster, only 2 yrs old, go through the same thing. Two weeks adtwr being treated foe mites I found he was getting beat up by the other rooster and stopped eating and drinking. The injuries were what got him in the end, not the mites.

Thank yous both so much for the replies, I have him in my quarantine pen but his brother (raised from hatchlings) is throwing a fit, calling and pacing the fence line closest to the quarantine pen, its so sad, I knew they were bonded, never fight and have even defended each other from a wild turkey 2 yrs ago. I’ve been calling all the vets in my area and no one handles fowl. I’m starting to think you’re right though, issues with his organs bc physically I see nothing no injuries, bruises, mites nothing. I started treating him yesterday thinking maybe mites gave him an infection and praying he shows some sign of improvement. He’s such a good boy breaks my heart to see him suffer

Definitely keep him quarantined. Turkeys sometimes like to attack a sick or down bird. So very sorry. I lost my very favorite Tom 3 years ago and it broke my heart. Still haven't gotten over his loss. It's definitely worth trying to help him.
