I would love some advice on this. We have 2 pairs of turkeys, both females are very confused and are laying and trying to nest in this Michigan winter. The Bourbon Red hen which is almost 6 months old has started getting VERY aggressive with my little silkie roo. A couple days ago I had to remove her from his comb that she was trying to rip off. He got brought into the house cleaned up and was doing good 24 hours later and went back out to the coop. Today, 2 days later, I went out to check waterers, feeders, and for eggs and the hen was in the coop eating. She has blood splattered all around her face. I ran out of the coop to find my silkie roos completly plucked of all his feathers from his head. Completly bald except a couple strands on the very top. I watched him and he is drinking and going about his business, just slower than normal. I want to know what is up with this hen all of a sudden? Is this something to excpect from a hen or is this not normal? The other Sweetgrass hen in not becoming violent at all. These are my first turkeys I am keeping for breeders. We are planning on building a hoop house very early spring because I heard that the toms will fight. The toms are not fighting they seem to know who is who's mate. This darn hen is just trying to kill her a chicken? Any advice is welcome, even if I should put her in the freezer for dinner.

Then you need to ask yourself whats for dinner turkey or chicken?? I would say chicken for dinner, and turkey after she give you a bunch of eggs, and new turkeys.

As of now we only have one coop. We have a shed I use for feed storage. Kinda old not huge, maybe 5x6. If I patch the roof a little and put wood shavings in would it be ok for her? And should I put her tom in with her? It has no run attached to it and they can always fly back into the chickens yard if I let them out.

Or if I do butcher her, what about her mate? Will he start fighting with the other tom because there will only be 1 hen left?

The house size is ok but they would need a run. if you could add one that would work. You will need a seperate run for them in the spring anyway or you could end up with mixed poults. Once they toms sort out the pecking order they will be ok.
