One of my turkey hens got out of the pen and was attacked by dogs. The dogs took a couple huge bites out of her back. One is about the size of your palm. Very little bleeding though. No wings or legs broken during the attack so she is walking fine. What do I do? Should I bring her in where it is warmer? How do I clean the wounds? If I need treatments that aren't over the counter, where do I buy them? New to this and this is my first injured turkey. Thanks for any help.

Flush the wound(s) with running water or sterile saline, cover with a topical of your choice -- SWAT, Neosporin, Blu Kote, etc -- and then depending on location either bandage or leave it open. You'll want to move her away from the flock however, to eliminate picking at the wounds that will make them worse and give her an opportunity to focus her energy on healing. Provide her a warm, quiet location with ample food and water. Monitor her to be sure she's eating and drinking and just play it by ear.

Thanks for your help. Hen is drinking and walking so I'll take that as a good sign. I'll watch for infection and see how it goes.
