TSC carries Purina feeds and can special order Purina Gamebird Startena 30% protein feed but it depends on local management whether or not they will cooperate. Company management has decided that carrying a proper turkey or gamebird starter is not profitable enough for them. They are more interested in their profit line and don't care about what is best for the poults, guineas or game birds.Ive been looking for the 30% chick starter for turkeys but apparently neither Rural King or TSC carries anything more than 24%.
The 24% protein isn't that bad except it does not have the proper amounts of lysine, methionine and niacin.
You can help out with the niacin part by mixing a good vitamin B complex in their water at the rate of 1/2 tablet or capsule to one gallon of water. Do not mix anything else with the water. Make it their only source of water. It should be made fresh daily. You can get vitamin B complex in the vitamin section of any grocery store.
With only one poult, you could try ordering something like a 10 lb. package online rather than trying to find a 50 lb. sack locally.
When my local feed dealer decided to close his shop and retire, I ended up getting our local Sutherlands to carry the turkey starter for me. None of the chain stores or the only other local feed store would carry it. If Sutherlands had not been willing to order it in, I would have used my only other option and would have become a specialty feed store myself.
