Turkey poult swollen hock??

Hello!! So yesterday night one of my turkey poults was hatched n we didn't notice until we took him out this morning that one of the legs is bent and wont extend, also the fact that its missing a toe! a little shorter it seems n slightly thinner. He has good energy and flops around alot, he’s fighting for life but we aren’t sure how to fix it, I believe a swollen hock and splayed tendon? its red and its difficult to straighten without him crying alot. If I wrap it can it be fixed? or will I need to cull him? please help

Looks like a slipped tendon to me. You have to fully extend the leg to be able to put the tendon back into the groove on the back of the hock.

After putting the tendon back in place, it has to be secured there or it will just keep popping out.

If it was mine, I would cull it because I would not want it in my breeding flock or anyone else's.

I cull.
Trying to save them I get attached.... then they have so many issues. I ended up culling anyway but such a heartache. I can't deal with the special needs animals anymore.

Others get the special needs on purpose to try to save them. They build sling wheelchairs for them.

So it depends how strong your heart is I guess
