Turkey Poults Flip Over Syndrome-F.O.S.-My experience and what I did.

Glad to hear you havent had any more problems in the years since your first problem. I have my 1st batch of bourbon reds they are about 3 weeks old. I have 5 and hope to have a good tom to hen ratio as I would like my own poults next year. Im glad you posted this so if I encounter this flip problem with my own poults I will have have a few ideas on how to handle them.

:thumbsup

Glad that I could help.

Thank you Kuntrygirl. It is just strange that this started after he was so much older then everything I've read. He is not worse today, maybe a tad better. I am going to continue to work with him as long as he can eat and drink well. The other turkeys seem to be very patient with him too. I'm not a turkey expert though. I'm not trying to breed turkeys so keeping him wouldn't be an issue as far as that is concerned.

Well poor little guy didn't make it. I don't know what happened but I went to check on them yesterday morning and he had passed :( I just wanted to say thanks for the advice. If I ever have one again maybe I can be of more help to the little flipper.

Awwww, I'm so sorry to hear that. Thank you for trying to help him. :hugs

I received my first five ever poults yesterday morning. One flipped over once yesterday, and I just thought it was cute, but this morning she was just floppy and laying on her back. I have kept her in the "donut" all day, fed her electrolytes through eye dropper, and also mashed starter feed mixed with egg yolk and water. She has slept a lot and drank a lot, ate a bit. This afternoon, she was able to stand on her own for about fifteen minutes and looked pretty good. Now she is back to lethargic and floppy, although she can stand upright for short periods of time. She is sleepy, but her fellow chicks are sleeping right now as well. Is there hope?

My friend also got five turkeys in the same box and one of hers is behaving this way. They are three days old now.

Thanks. This post was sooooo helpful in trying to save her. My friend did the same things and it looks like hers will make it:)
