I have a tom that free ranges. He does not roost very high and I am afraid something might attack him. He roost on the chicken and other turkey pens. The only reason that I don't put him in with the other turkeys is because the other tom tries to fight him. When will he roost in trees?

too answer your question about a turkey rooting in a tree is yes they do. But you can put both toms togeth they will eventually find out whos boss and will be fine it might take a few times but they'll get over it. hope I answered some of your quetion

It depends on how heavy he is as to how high he's going to try to roost. If he's several feet off the ground, I wouldn't worry too much. Mine roost on the edge of my chicken pens, which are about 6 ft or so. I've never lost a bird to anything while roosting on the edges of the pens.
