Been thinking on this for a while, wondering about erecting one of these next year to start maybe 2 dozen turkeys in, figure i can keep expanding as they grown and fence the ends in with chicken wire. I would also set up an electronet fence around it to allow outdoor roaming when they get big enough and to keep predators out. Been using electronet for my ducks for about a year and a half with good success. As I only will have them for 20ish weeks, i hate to put in permanent infrastructure, anyone with thoughts or suggestions?

Broad breasted will pretty much be done flying somewhere around 3-4 months. Heritage hens will fly 12+ feet up to roost well past a year old, Toms/Jakes don't fly as much or high as hens, but can still fly several feet up to roost.

That could possibly work, especially only for a short amount of time, depending on the time of year and the wind of course. I've had one like that and it flew over our fence because it was lightweight and not secured down that well. We ended up securing it with tposts and it stayed up fine. I like the brand Shelterlogic, they make pretty good temporary or permanent structures that are easily assembled and taken down.

Good info, thank you. Neighbor does it with BBW, as he makes a business out of it I don’t really feel comfortable asking too many questions, is it perhaps possible he is clipping wings? I know i see them outside fully feathered with 4’ poultry net .

They may be clipping wings or they may just be at the point where they are too heavy to fly.

The information i did get is that they are on about an 18 week program with them.
The turkeys may just be too heavy to fly. We raise turkeys every year with a 4ft tall fence, but if one decides it wants to fly when they're younger and before they are too big to fly, we just clip their wings.
