"Hey Hey" is our 50lb, old white breasted turkey that we rescued from a old couple who had a California wildfire burn their home down a few months ago. He moves very slow & pants. Well we interrupted a bobcat trying to drag Hey Hey away yesterday. Feathers were everywhere! Hey Hey was horrified. Upon inspection it appears only his leg is injured. There is a good size gash on it that was bleeding pretty bad. We picked him up & stopped the bleeding. We put him in his aluminum shed (where he sleeps at night) and secured the doors.
We cant get him to a vet because we are snowed in right now.
Is there anything we can do to help poor Hey Hey?

Pictures are always welcome, and sometimes helpful. Flush the wound out well with chlorhexidine (hibiclens), sterile saline, diluted betadine, mild soapy water, veterycin, etc. You can put plain neosporin or plain triple antibiotic ointment on it. Preventing infection is most important, even some pretty bad stuff will heal up. He may be in shock, so make sure he's drinking and stays hydrated, keep him in a warm place, and quiet until he recovers some. I would clean it and reapply the ointment daily, or as needed. Using clean bath towels or puppy pads rather than loose bedding. I don't have turkey's just chickens, but wound treatment should be the same basically.
