I'm interested in adding a couple or three midget whites (or maybe another of the smaller breeds) to my backyard chicken flock. Being in the middle of a neightborhood, I have to be concious of noise levels. Are chickens too loud to be considered a responsible addition to the flock? I'd love to get some input from the more experienced turkey owners.

Thanks!

Do you mean "are turkeys to loud?"
Toms gobbles can be load.
A full grown tom in a closed coop hurts my ears when they gooble and my ears have been around.

yes, toms can be considered "loud."
in the winter the sound carries further, but fewer people are outside.
hens can also be loud at times.
however, i don't think we would consider not having any turkeys now that we have our breeders here. they add a lot of personality to any flock.

So it sounds like you would recommend against adding turkeys to a flock in a neighborhood/densly populated area. Are midget whites any better about noise level? or are they just as prolific as the standard sized breeds?

Hens don't gobble but some can make loud alarm calls so if you were going to pick one,
a set of calm hens would be your best bet. They need company.

I have two turkey hens and live in a neighborhood but they are legal here. On some occasions mine are loud but mostly when I first got them they got quieter as time passed I believe they just needed to get used to the sights and sounds of new environment.other than that and when I first get home they are pretty quiet . They really talk it up when they see me.according too my neighbor she rarely hear them.
