Turkeys flew the coop

We have eastern and Rio Grande and didn't have any problems with them. The breeder we bought them from would not sell us the older birds because they would return . I kept them locked up overnight and have been here ever since. Now the sweetgrass were a different story, took a couple of weeks for them to settle in.

ive been wondering about this myself. im getting 4 turkeys on fri 3 toms and a hen. i dont know what kind they are but theyre white and light brown. the guy im getting them, frpom just lets them hang out in the yard and they come see you when you pull up at their house. i live about a mile from them and was wondering if theyll go back if i let them roam free. i have a fence around the property but its only 4 ft.

All good questions..as you know, from my runaway turkeys, I won't have good answer! LOL The guy who gave me mine says we should try again... but keep them penned up longer... but i haven't committed to it just yet. But my kids did really enjoy them for the time we had them. Keep us posted. Maybe I'll learn something from your experience.

From what the lady we bought are birds from said was to keep them penned for a couple of weeks and we shouldn't have any problems with them returning. I couldn't wait with my birds and many cold dark nights were spent searching for them to bring them back home. Watching them now strut around and cause turkey jams on the road made it all worth while. Can't understand what the toms are thinking strutting and gobbing at the cars on the side of the road.

thats awesome turkey jams in the road! i hope i can get mine to hang around and do that, ill just get a chair and a cooler of beer and watch everybody freak out. sounds like i need to keep them penned up a month or more i def dont want them to get away. thanks yall.
