Turkeys For 2013

Thanks. If someone stole the eggs, then they needed the eggs more than I do. I will look at it as "paying it forward". So they got an order of almost $100.00 worth of turkey eggs.

I put some golf balls and wooded eggs in the nest last night. If it's a snake, they will eat the golf balls. I will see what is in the nest when I get home.

I have heard of blowing out an agg and refilling it with salt and sealing the end.. The snake will eat it and die

I will be sticking with my usual breed (Bourbon Reds). Although, I have an incubator, I may have to get another one because I want to hatch pea and guinea eggs as well, and I won't be able to do that with my little bator. I need more room. Although, I can count on my chickens to go broody, I want to be prepared for 2013. I'm right at 30 BR and 6 of them are Toms. So, I have enough girls to lay and go broody. My poor girls go broody at the drop of a hat. and will sometimes stop laying to set on eggs.

Crossing my fingers that everyone has good breeding and hatching for 2013. [can you help me find two turkeys for sale I want one female and one male to start off with

I'll try. What city/state do you live in? Have you checked with your local feed stores, craigslist, etc? You can always post an ad online on Craigslist under Farm and Garden asking for turkeys.

My 4 muskateers were/are toms. I sold one as a pet, and in days he was loose and the cops were chasing him in their squad cars trying to herd him.

He was a pussy cat and they could have just picked him up with out a fuss, but they don't know a thing about turkeys!! lol

And you didn't get a video of this?

I'm so sorry to hear about your poults. Last year was my first year to try and hatch turkey eggs. Both died in the shell. This year I have Chuck and Rosie. I checked to see if her eggs were fertile and they were. Rosie became broody but wouldn't be consistant on her nest so I started bringing them in to the incubator. They just started hatching. 1 or 2 would hatch, then several days later another. I got up to 7 but by now they were different sizes, so the next 2 I put in a tote. One became sick with respiratory symptoms, then the 2nd. Both died. A week later 2 more hatched so I put these in with the others. One got stomped over and the other I found dead on his back. I killed 4 in a row. I was going to stop but I do have a market for them so I have 8 or 10 in due to hatch in 2 weeks and another 7 to put in Monday. I was told that trying to hatch turkeys was a hard as raising them to 6 mo. This same person told me that a poults only reason for living for that first 6 month is to try to find ways to die. Try not to be so hard on yourself. It happens. I wish you lived closer, I'd share some with you.

Thank you all. I candled the remaining eggs but have now had an incubator incident so any that were alive are definitely dead. I wish the hen would hurry up and try again! I also have a market here and they are rare so I am feeling more pressure.
