They are beautiful !!! What a great looking group. I am soooo jealous!!!

Thank you, I am looking forward to raising these and seeing how the colors develop. Unfortunately, I really wanted the Bourbon Reds and now only have 4. One was weak on arrival and didn't make it and one had curled toes which I tried to fix using the shoe and bandaid method. That poult was doing okay and getting around with the "shoes" on, but this morning, I found it upside down in a small feed dish, very weak, can't open it's eyes--probably was like that for too many hours. I think I will have to cull it or it is going to cull itself

I had Bourbon Reds before, one of my first breeds of turkeys, and really liked them but they were hatchery stock and I had too many problems with them, so finally got rid of them and hoped to get them again! With only 4, I don't know what my chances are of getting a good group of proper sex ratio. Plus I was hoping if I had an extra hen, to put her in with my beautiful show quality Narragansett tom since that pairing will give sexlinked poults. Anybody on this thread have pure Bourbon Reds, not from a hatchery, and preferably not from Porter stock since I'd like to get a different line so as not to breed brother-sister? I'd love to get a few hatching eggs. Can't handle another order of live poults now, too many to take care of, since minimum is usually 15 PM me if you sell hatching eggs. I have to be particular about what I get, so photos are most welcome. I saw somebody advertising Bourbon Red hatching eggs on Ebay recently, and the photo along with the ad was a cross!

Hi Desertmarcy!! Check out Arielle on the 'Just In Time Hatching Egg AUCTION and BIN Thread'. I bought 7 Red Bourbon Turkey Eggs from her and mine

hopefully will hatch next weekend. She packages them individually and then puts them in a box within a box. Not one egg was broken. Her turkeys are simply beautiful.

Lisa :)

X 2 I have 2 beautiful, sweet tempered Toms and a hen (who is currently broody) Sweet Pea is spoiled and likes to come into the shed to sneak treats while I mix buckets. I hope she will soon be raising some Muscovy for me. She looks to be content on the dummies, but I will give her a little more time before I give her the real thing. I also have several Sweetgrass eggs in the Hova that are looking good. Beautiful birds, I can hardly wait!

Good Morning!

How are you housing your turkeys? Do you let them stay out at night or do you pen them up? Last year we had 4 BBW and we penned them up at night. They really wanted to stay outside.

Lisa :)

THose white poults with the gray stripe look like sweetgrass poults. If you look at the history of the sweet grass they came from a bronze flock.

Refresh my memory-- what is in your flock?
I have a Narri Jake covering a Narri Hen and 2 Black Hens (that have a tiny bit of mottling). They all came from a Blue Slate Tom X Narri Hen, but she was much lighter than my Hen. I am not sure of the history beyond that tho. (And I keep my WildX pair separate from these 4).

I'd be thrilled if they turn out to be (or look like) Sweetgrass, they are gorgeous birds and are high on my endless list of I WANTS, lol.

I'm not very good on color genetics. BUt since you like the sweetgrass, raise these up and see what you get. Kevin POrter mentioned another breed that also throws white poults as well asa the white w/ gray stripe-- maybe look at his calico page. Might be the info you need as he puts all the color genetics on each page. Makes my head spin. lol

I let 2 hens set their own eggs. None of the eggs were fertile. Now I am breaking up the nest. Will the hens lay again this year or are they done for this year? Both hens and the tom were last year hatches.

great question. I have never let mine nest so I don't have the answer. For my chickens, yes, they go back to laying. THerefore maybe the turkey hens do to. Will be watching for the answer.

I had a few poults that hatched this weekend. As of this morning, I was up to 5 poults. I think the last hen that I had that was laying has now gone broody. I think it's over for me for eggs for a while. :/
