Quote: Canner arrived today!!! 2 days early. Still need another part though that is extra- an extra order and extra $$ but so worth it. A canner regulator. I like to hear the canner rather than depend on the pressure puage which is notoriously off.
Canning meat is new to me-- but my mom and I used to can when I was a teen. Just need to know a few things to keep food safe for eating.
What do you have for a canner??
I had one chicken with this-- or I think it was this. I culled the bird simpley based on it not being normal, not because I knew what the problem was at the time. SO thank you for sharing. Now I'm certain this was the problem. Glad I culled to the freezer. That looks like pendulous crop. If the crop never goes back to a normal position, my advice is cull the bird before it gets worse. It is a genetic disorder and the birds afflicted usually suffer a long decline and eventually die. The ligaments holding the crop in place are weak and the crop stretches down when the bird eats and drinks. The more it stretches, the worse it gets. Eventually the food cannot pass normally into the stomach and gizzard and sits in the crop and spoils. The bird can starve to death with a full crop. It is very sad.
