The adult pen consists of 2 hens and 2 Toms. And I have 3-4 young turkeys I plan to add to them when it is time.
the young out number the older girls so abuse will be spread out. I'm not sure. I set up new pens breeding daughters to fathers and sons to mothers so have 2 pens. may be use plenty of distraction perhaps.

400

One is a Tom for sure how about the other two??

I see 4 in the pic. Are they all the same age. I see 2 Toms for sure the top and left. The very lower right is a hen and the center one I am tempted to say hen if it is the same age.

The one in the lower left is a blue slate. They are all the same age. Based off of the snood I think the royal palms are two hens and two jakes. The hard thing is that the one for sure hen has a really short snood because she got it cut off when she decided to go through the fence about a month ago. Of the two that I had questions about one has a longer snood and one shorter, but both seem to have some caruncles and sometimes have redder looking heads. I am glad y'all think I have two royal palm hens because I really was hoping for a trio for breeding. The blue slates were always for eating, my daughter named them thanksgiving and Christmas. Lol!!

I think you have your left and right confused...the lower right in the pic is the blue slate and you have two jake palms...the slate is a hen though...

Kathryn you are right, sorry.
I'm just happy to have the two RP hens. I don't know if I will keep both of the toms or not. Do they usually fight or can you keep two together if you only have two hens??

In my expereince, no hard and fast rules. ONe I always keep a back up. NO male, no poults. I have some that get along with out disputes and others that got into fights and died from his injuries. THe 2 remaining don't fight, but one of them injured the one that later died.

GEnerally mine will fight if they separated for even a few hours. or a fence gets between them, then they fight thru the fence. SIlly birds. When put back to gether, they fight a bit. ANnoying really.

Sot his is why I stress keep a back up male.

( I have 2-3 toms in with 6 hens)

I have some color questions. All are close to 4 months old. The parents to all of these birds were: a full royal palm hen, and a half royal palm, half bourbon red tom.
Here is a hen. All hens with white are this color. All white toms show normal royal palm patterning, no brown. Is there even a name for this color? I find it striking, like calico.

Here is another hen. What is this? Bronze? I've never had a bronze hen so I'm not sure what they look like. Her feathers are edged with light, creamy brown.

Ok, now some questions about the boys. This guy has very dark brown, almost black, feathers on his back and chest. Solid colored, no edging. They are shiny in the sun but not multicolored like a bronze. The tips of his tail are very white. What is this?

The other 'bronzey' boys have the very shiny red/green/brown feathers that are absolutely gorgeous. They give the appearance of scales. The tips of their tail are reddish, not white like the one above. He's in the back in this picture. Their wings are also darker in color.

If there are no names for these colors, that's ok. I love all my babies and I was just curious

These guys make me smile every day. They freerange all day, and let me know when it is feeding time by coming onto the back porch and flipping over a metal dog dish to make noise. As soon as I come out the door they gather around my feet making their soft putts and kee-kees. The toms are just starting to gobble, so of course I do everything possible to make them do it. I had great fun today with a turkey hen call, the little toms were getting so worked up, gobbling and strutting their not-quite-impressive stuff all over the yard.

Once I get the rooster run done we are going to move the turkey over there till we get their pens done. But now I know that this guy will stay with the hens. He would die if I tried to change his pen. But the hens love the turkeys so they are family. I guess I will see how things go. we have a dog that is nearly blind and can hardly hear. Plus a pit bull that can't tell who we are till we speak to him. He can't see much either! I told my husband that we had the water checked and they did not find anything in our well water. Or I would think it is the water! I just don't know what to think.
If you have any doubt about your water supply, a one or even ten micron water filter does not cost much and fairly easy to put in-line coming from the well to most houses and safer for the family, too!
At the time I was living in Indiana. I had to drive to Ohio to see the eye specialist. I didn't care for his attitude. He was one of those 'almighty' doctors. Anyway when I went to the pharmacy they had asked me if I wanted to put it on my insurance. HA! The look on their faces was precious when I told them it was for my dog!

Lisa :)
There are sites that offer reduced Rx prices for people who do not have low co-pays on their insurance and I ran across one the other day that will reduce the price up to 70%, even for your pets! If anyone is interested, I'll try to look it up again. Most major drug stores accept them. I think they get a reduced price from the drug companies if they do.
