Thanks everyone for the tips! going to do the tylan injectable. I am working on NPIP as well, so once I can finally get a "tester" here to test, I can get some answers.
I try to not think the worst, and get worked up over minor symptoms, there is such a broad range of diseases that a sneeze matches!
But I do want to start treating right away, any time a bird won't eat, i go into panic mode.
Especially with all the crop dust flying around, and my sneezing is worse than theirs

There is several unplanted fields around us this year chock full of goldenrod and ragweed, ugh!
The fields mostly belong to Con Agra foods.

Good Luck. And it's good to get "get worked up" over minor symptoms because minor can turn to MAJOR and then it's too late.

And eating is a sign that something is VERY wrong. Have you started hand feeding yet? What about getting liquids down them?

Hi everyone. I'm hoping you can help me. I have two 8 month old Standard bronze, 1 tom 1 hen. I saw them attempt to mate today. The tom was very uncoordinated and unsuccessful. The hen got up and started chasing the tom, grabbed hold of his snood and was pecking his head. When he got away, she followed him step for step. Pecking him, making noises, she would not leave him alone. This went on for 10-15 minutes. He'd pass an apple on the ground, pick it up, shed take the apple, eat it, then following him once again. Until he'd pass another apple. Then when all was said and done, she went after him, held his head to the ground and wouldn't let him up. I kept an eye on them, but had to go inside. It didn't get bloody, but man she was upset! 30 minutes later, they are best buddies again. Is this normal. This is my first pair of turkeys. And they are in a new pen, just this week. They had been in with my hens, but the turkey hen hurt one of my chickens, so out they went. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Deb

Could be if the tom is a lot heavier than the hen, in his awkwardness, he scratched her or hurt her in some way
. I would look at her sides under her wings and see how she is!

Will do. I was just out checking on them, they both do have some scratches about the head and beak/snood area, but just superficial. Just took some pics to share as well

Ok I went out, felt under her wings, shoulder area and neck. She moved to sit down and started quivering. Does that mean she's hurt? She didn't make a sound, just sat there while I had my look. I did not find any scratches or open wounds. I did feel and see some more feathers coming in just under her wing area and down the sides. I moved each wing she didn't seem to mind. She didn't try and make a mad dash.

Very nice looking turkeys! Maybe she was just saying " not now, Honey, I not ready for poults, yet" ! LOL

I think it was the opposite. I have had hens get very frustrated with a tom who couldn't or wouldn't breed them. If she was squatting for the tom, she wanted to be bred. I had an older tom, who for whatever reason, would not breed his hens. After repeatedly squatting, getting up and following the tom, squatting by him again, with no action on his part, she grabbed his snood and dragged him all over the pen. You could just see her frustration! It takes the younger toms a while to "get with the program". They are usually uncoordinated at first.

Thank you! The did belong to my neighbor, they were scheduled for slaughter with the rest of the bunch 2 weeks ago. My neighbor said 2 were mine anyway, it didn't matter to him if I wanted them to live or die. But if they live, we can eat next year lol.

They were fed starter feed for one bag, then cracked corn. Plus veggies and fruits and grazing. They have it very good now lol. So I almost can't wait for molt so they get rid of all the nasty cut feathers. I've had them for about 4 months now. Normally no problems. Weird time for them I guess
