Turkeys For 2013

I could spend a week out there visiting friends on BYC and DH's USAF roomie, he is still begging us to come

If we ever do I will sure swap ya! I am pasturing these buggers, and I cannot believe how fast they grow, they are nearly as tall as my chickens already. I will try to get pics tomorrow, scraggly looking ugly stage for them right now

they hop on my lap and fall asleep, just dolls.

That's why I call them Turkey Puppies, lol. After having/raising/hatching mainly just Guineas for so many years the poults are a welcomed change of pace. I have a few keets in with my poults... and they have tamed down SO much already. Like I told a friend of mine... Turkeys whether stuffed and roasted, or in the brooder they just emit/ooze tryptophan, LOL.

So my new question is, after candling and seeing that at day 8 the air sac is not as big as it should be, did I ruin my chances of hatching? I have reduced the humidity from 70% to 50% and am going to keep an eye on them. Hopefully I didn't screw up too bad.

I set every one I get on Tuesdays, I will hatch me some this year yet!
I plan to put all my new hatches together on these 2 species also. I am laying out pasture and coop plans for my turkeys now. anyone care to share pics of their turkey coops? DH thinks I need to look for a LGD since we have so many babies this year

I am a noob for turkeys, but don't give up on them yet! I use dry hatch method on everything. keep humidity around 35% til lock down, then raise it up to around 70%. There are stickies on most species of fowl that recommend it on BYC. Good luck on your hatch

Good job looking at the air cell. And you are right, now to decrease the humidity to increase the aircell devleopment. I also dry hatch like Jchny 2000, 70% is used at lock down, not usually during the incubating period. IT doesn't need to be a perfect fit at next check, but definitely the air cell should be growing fast enough to be on target by lockdown. Keep tracking the aircell, and you will do fine.

Congrats! Did you have many hatch? Which kind? Ive been setting eggs weekly, batch 3 is pipping as we speak. And batches 4 and 5 are cooking. Im sad because the first 2 batches are getting picked up today. Ill miss all the little buggers.

Soooo excited for your hatch Arielle. I may have to one of these days ask you to ship me some Sweetgrass eggs.

I moved my next 12 eggs to the hatcher last night. 1 pipped egg as of this AM. Here we go again... lol

I have more BR and sweets in the incubator for a staggered hatch, and I have Narrigansetts with Oaks blood as well. The Narri are shipped so I am praying a few are not too scrambled !!

I probably need to order some poults from Sand Hill or Porters again--- but I only need a few, so if anyone nearby is willing to split an order, please let me know. I have 10 Auburn boys in need of girl friends.
