I heard porters is booked until July already though. Good luck on the order!I probably need to order some poults from Sand Hill or Porters again--- but I only need a few, so if anyone nearby is willing to split an order, please let me know. I have 10 Auburn boys in need of girl friends.
Oh man, I may be jinxing myself here. The eggs I got from you are developing well ( 1 clear BR), which is amazing as the incubator has been being a bit temperamental. Anyways, since I will (hopefully) have 2 lonely SG, I just may need a few friends for them. If you order from Porters, I would be interested in getting some Fall Fires..![]()
THat is good news!! Fall FIres are very pretty!! I was looking at them this morning!! Porters should be having a sale soon, though I don't kn ow if they have one every summer or not. Of course the selection decreases.
Anyone else in the MA area interested-- how about you chickn pickin??

Thank you,I'll do that!FOr the money you could buy 3 LG's!! BUt without turner and without fan. Each has it's issues. I have followed some of the big hatcha thons and someone always brings up incubator issues. Look for the Farm Innovator thread, perhaps there is one and it can give you hints on how to best use that machine. I participate in the LG thread as it is very helpful to old and new users.
Every model has issues, including the thermometers. I would not use the included thermometer without testing it next to a reliable one.
I bough 5 fish tank thermometers at the same time that had the same temps ( reading store ambient temps) and took them home. And put them in a glass of warm water, NOT HOT WATER, but luke warm, and looked at the temps again. I figured the ones that read the same were the most accurate. 4 out of 5 were the exact same.
THen I used them to hatch with. Many factors effect the hatching rate: still air or fan, how close to the motor, number of times incubator is opened in a day or not.
When the eggs hatched on day 21 I knew I had the temperature reading that worked for me.
Currently my 2 thermometers read 104, 106, really scary numbers right? THe eggs hatch on day 21 for the chickens and day 18 for the turkeys. Both thermometers are off, but I know they are and can work with them.
PS I cooked one under the brooder lamp when checking temps for the chicks/poults. Ruined the thermometer- split the mercury.

LOL I think you found a new profession-- turkey parenting 101Hi everyone! I have been working on trying to get my poults raised up enough to let them go outside. They are between 1-3 months old. My one month old for some reason got scalped! I went out to get them their food and water and saw his head all bloody! I was horrified they have been together since I brought them all home and gotten along... I had a feeling it was my narri's that got ahold of my youngest baby. I put some antibotic cream on his head and separated him for two day's. The third day he was flying up hitting the top of his brooder telling me he wanted back in his box! So I put him back in the brooder with the others and watched! One by one each of the Narri's pecked and tugged the healing skin on his head. As I saw them do it I gently patted their bottoms and told them No and to be nice! Till all three of them had gotten patted! They all looked at me like I was crazy for getting onto them! But it worked! They left the baby's head alone and he is healed up! Just thought I would share! I am lovin my turkey babies!
