My eggs in the bator hatched but the won't stop peeping. He hatched tonight and imprinted on me. I can't even sleep because he is peeping his little head off... I'm talking turkey to him. Shod I?

Go ahead an make turkey noises!!!! I did it all te time when my turkey was just one day old an he's huge now ( 11 weeks old) an we still "talk" an when he was young I used to make mother noises an tap the ground an he learned to come to me when I did that an now that he's so big I it's easyer to catch him because I "tell him to come here"

If he doesn't produce fertilized eggs, then yes he is too big to breed.

My BBW became so big they didn't walk much which eliminates any breeding activities. Perhaps if your bird is still spry and can accomplish all the motions of the dance to accomplish the job, breeding is possible.

You can also investigate artificial insemination . . . . .

On the top one I am not sure but I think it might be a hen flirting with the blue?

Hi everyone, I'm new to turkeys. I had a single peachick hatch a day and half ago, went to the feedstore yesterday and they had 1 week old turkey poults. I have wanted royal palms for awhile and couldn't resist. I bought 4 royal palms and 2 blue slate. Brought them home and put them in with my peachick, they went right to eating and drinking. This morning they were all snuggled under my brinsea warmer.
I will raise them together and should have more Peachicks hatch in another 1.5 weeks. They are all eating purina game bird startena. Anything special I should do for the poults??

How soon do you folks add your young poults to run with the adult turkeys?
My tom whacked my hand with his wing when I was holding one of the poults the other day. I never knew turkeys could do that, he was f ast too!
thankfully the poult was fine, probably had ringing ears for a while, I know my hands were stinging.
it was enough to make me re-think putting the babies in with the grownups.

I do not put baby anythhing in with adults. They need a parent to defend them. They need to be mostly grown to mix w/ adults IMO.

I raise poults and chicks the same-- don't know about peafowl.

I like to get them comfortable with me. They might not imprint do to the fact that they are a couple days old but pick them up a lot(clean hands only) and talk to them a lot in a soothing voice. Give then something shinny like a spoon to peck at. Good luck!!!

Here are my turkeys the little ones are bronze but when we got the big ones they said white turkeys does any one know what they are? One has meds one tail.

The White poult can be either a Broad Breasted White(AKA Giant White), a Heritage White, a Midget White, a Beltsville White, or a Cross between a Beltsville and a Midget White. If it eats like a pig and grows very fast with a short fat body with short legs, it's probably a BBW and should be processed in 4 to 6 months, but with a strict diet, can live to be a few years old and over 80 pounds, but will need to be AI. If it has a tapered body on tall legs and grows rather rapidly, it's probably a Heritage Holland White and will have a lot of breast meat for a heritage turkey, but have no problem mating naturally. If it stays small, it will be one of the other 3 options, but they are so hard to tell where one breed leaves off and the others begin, even the APA groups them together as Beltsville/Midget White. Let us know what it turns out to be?

Can someone please help me? My turkey is getting bigger and he still is pecking at my rings but he is now hurting me. Now all the other turkey are pecking at me when I go into their pen. I don't know what to do. The little ones started pecking and pulling on my clothes I thought to get my attention. And one likes to jump on me where ever she can. But the pecking is hurting and making bloody sores on my hands. Please help me figure out how to stop them from hurting me!

Turkeys will peck at anything shiny or brightly colored, so I warn anyone who visits the farm, to leave their jewelry at home, especially earrings! I use shiny aluminum bowls to attract poults to water and feed and use a very brightly colored sheet, spread out under their food, when moving them outside and starting them on big kid feed. I happen to be very light complected and have a few freckles on my hands and legs, which was a problem with having 40+ poults outside, ranging from 3 weeks to almost 4 months, so I started grabbing the ones doing the pecking by the neck. Not hard or anything, just to hold it loosely. They do not like it and do not even try, once they are restrained in this manner two or three times. If you don't want to remove rings, you might try this, but there is a member on BYC that lost a very expensive pearl earring to a duck pecking it off her ear and turkeys are bigger peckers than ducks!
