Turkeys For 2013

Stopped at feed store today-- they had BBB and BBW. for $10.99 !! I asked at the desk if perhaps the price was confused with a heritage breed. THe fellow said he would check with the powers that be that set the pricing. I was planning to buy a few to cross with. ughhhh. Next year. TOo late to order 15 poults. Oh wait it is only June---WIll need to think it over.

I hear ya! They tease us with those babies! It's just not fair.....

I will be getting as many as I can get my DH to let me bring home on the 1st!!!!

Go for it-- they get very big-- or at least I pushed mine to the limits as I would be paying for slaughtering at $10 each. THey day came when they couln't walk more than a foot at a time. THe 6 sure took up a lot of freezer space. TOms dressed at #35 pounds each; hens at #25 ish. At least with the heritage turkeys I can keep them penned until dinner day.

HOw many do you think you will be coming home with??

X2 on the grazing! My BBW are getting so huge I can't believe it. I free range them all day and they sure eat anything in their path

I have 15, and they are super charged eating machines. I swear, they are the turkey equivalent of Cornish cross chicken.

OOOOOOOH forgot to post update! Out of 18 BR eggs, 13 are actively trying to pip, a few are internally pipped already

Really glad I candled at lockdown.
Awesome stats on shipped eggs! 5 were early quitters etc.
So excited, they are sure wanting out! Not even close to actual hatch date, we have 3 more days! THANK YOU ARIELLE I AM SOOO EXCITED

Keep them walking and grazing for as long as you can if you can. WIll you keep all, or sell some to family and friends?

I was asking my DH last night if we could list some of them for sale on some of my fb pages or if he wanted to take them to auction. I guess he wants to think it over a bit. But I sure don't want to feed all 7 of them plus 8-10 more! What would you do with all the toms? They are only 4 months old.

Mine won't be able to free range, my dogs would eat them. But we feed them well and they do eat all the bugs they find in their run.

Selling as young poults is the easiest. LEt the buyer put the money into the feeding.
