You are pretty awesome to have taken in all those turkey and given them or found them homes! WOW Most people would not want to be bothered let alone building a pen and run to house them the next day!
Turkey are pretty interesting and very people oriented. Enjoy your new turkey!and keep us updated please...![]()
IT is starting already-- people don't like my turkey pricing. THe cost of keeping turkeys is expensive. I'm happy to put them in MY freezer. I've been looking in my freezers to decide what can be tossed at this point-- to feed the chickens! -- and make room. Canning is sure helping to save freezer space. I love roasted turkey-- a good week as the temps are dropping.
If eating turkeys is anything like raising meat chickens, people don't get how expensive it is!!! And how much better they taste!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!
It will come together for all of you. Thanks, but I think I have "sucker" written on my forehead........and all animals know it!!! The joke with my facebook friends is that there is an animal hotline where word gets spread to go to "Aunt Kat's" house. And they knew just how to win me over!
I would have helped them the first night had I known, but thought they might be wild turkeys and called my friend at the wildlife rescue, and she called game commission. I wasn't allowed to take them in until they found out what they were. The officer is the one who found the owner and all. By then, two went missing![]()
I'd love to say the run was accomplished yesterday, but hubs tinkered around and by the time I decided I wanted to add a door on the outside run to enter it from both sides, an decided on heavy welded wire so nothing bothers them, and bought everything, it was later in the day. I SOOOOOO NEED TO LEARN HOW TO BUILD STUFF!!!! So, BY THE END F THIS WEEK they will have a run! At least the coop built in the barn has a window I can open for nice fresh air and sunshine!
Will keep you updated, and Thanks!!!

THanks for the suporing words.
THe irony is that my prices were listed!! lol WHy bother me if you think they are too much.![]()
No shes not laying yet. I can easily separate the tom and turkey hen, just a divider fence is needed. I'm hoping to get some poults from them in the spring, I may also order a couple more turkeys in the spring so I can be choosey, but not wanting to order 15. She is jealous of me. She doesn't really like me to be with the chickens at all lol. I'm hoping her attitude changes for the better with age, I'm willing to wait it out and see. But by this time next year if shes worse, shes dinner. I might want to let my pair know they are not supposed to try and mate til spring, because they are trying almost daily now. Crazy turkeys!good ro see you here! racinchikins visits this thread too
She sounds like she is a dominate hen for sure.![]()
They usually don't mate/breed till spring here, she will make a good layer and broody.
If she continues to be mean and aggressive. a time out may help. Major raging hormones happening there.
If she continues to be mean and harms her poults, I would reconsider keeping her.
Is she laying? The tom is probably just not ready to be mature yet.
Both are eating and drinking now, boiled chopped quail eggs, fresh fish I caught myself, live mealies and all flock free choice. Lila is Much better.
Buddy is still not well as I had hoped, but is eating now! If any of my birds don't eat I am terrified. Thats a danger sign and it makes me sick with worry.
THanks for the suporing words.
