Turkeys For 2013

I have one that rides on the big tractor with me.
heritage, 6-8 months or when ever they reach the weight you are looking for. BB white or bronze are usually at weight by 24 weeks. I did one at 5 months an was almost 17 pounds dressed.

I would love to see that!

At what age can you start eating turkeys? I have 14 and plan on eating 7 of them. All were born in the spring.

Technically you can start eating at any time. THe older they are the more meat. Turkeys also over winter well because of their feathering and size. Just need some shelter during bad weather.

lol-- I now have scratches on the door where they scrabled up the door!! Mine run down the drive follwoing the car--- until DS shoo's them back .

Has anyone here tried to tether a turkey leg to let there bird free range the yard.... I dont want her to bolt for the woods I got her from a guy about a yr ago she has been in my pen with my Bourbon Red male he free ranges the yard with the chickens. The guy I got her from said she will run away if I tried letting her go alone. She was a wild bird at one time how he got her I dont know but she is to tame just to set free I got her because I felt sorry for her and I would also like to breed ber to my Bourbon tom

I wish there was someone local to me that'd split an order with me.  I only want Sweetgrass.  I can't justify spending $300 for them because I have to get 15.

If I were close to you, I would definitely split an order with you.

I think if done right they could be a nice breed what do you think about the tethering idea do you think she would go far if I let her out

I think it would hang out with your other turkey. I'm not a big fan of tethering anything really, without supervision a tethered animal is helpless against a predator.
