Does anyone brine their turkeys?
I'm going to try this year. I was watching Food Network and they said not to brine for more than 24hrs or you can over brine. I was going to brine for 3 days... Guess not now.

I'm just guessing, maybe the meat gets too salty? I have brined before, but not just with salt. I made a vegetable stock with lots of spices, salt and some sugar and brined in that. Delicious bird.Why not brine more than 24 hours?

NOthing-- it lives here forever, just no new posts added. DOn't know if editing is limited or not.Sometimes I brine, sometimes, I just stick in a large onion, a bunch of garlic and a few carrots inside and shove it into the oven, like that. Good both ways.

Editing would not be a problem, but I would hate for all the GREAT information in this thread to be gone forever. We have come so far on this thread, I think anyone starting turkeys could answer almost any question and get a great start in raising turkeys by using this thread as their first textbook and then turkeys 2014 could be their next volume, IMHO !
