Turkeys helping with the laundry??!!

Sometimes they make doing chores a real pain. They tend to get under foot a bit. Nothing like trying to split wood and have a turk land on your splitting block. I wonder if I can get them to do that in November?

My brother was teasing one of my chickens with a piece of pizza and looked away for a split second and then yelled when the chicken grabbed the whole slice of pizza out of his hands and ran back under the trailer and Eric on his hands and knees trying to get his pizza back even though he can't eat it anyway.

I was painting ..Eggs For Sale signs this evening and one turkey found me behind the barn! He called the others over so they could all criticize my work

Then they tried to remove my wedding band...I usually have to keep my hands in my pockets to avoid that

But I do love those turkeys!!

Least your birds are helping.. all mine do is poop and complain.

I left the french doors open today since it was pouring rain and I love the sound of it. I went to take a nap and I got woken up by something growling in my house. My dumb Rooster ( not turkey ) was standing in the doorway doing his lion impression. He growls really loud sometimes.
The chickens have taken to my porch now. I hate that. Its 60 feet lon gand overhung by our roof. I need to break them off it somehow. Not fun to walk out, not paying attention and having chicken and guinea poop squishing thru your toes.

Oh Oh! I have a turkey story, too!

I was bent over doing something beside the cochin's pen and I heard what I can only describe as the cute, small dinosaur from Jurassic Park running full speed up behind me. Then, it stopped and I heard, "squirk, squirk!" Yes, small dinosaur indeed.

I can totally picture it! Turkeys can be sooo funny & curious.

Carrie, what breed did you end up getting? What sex and how old are yours? Did you drive to the hatchery for pick up?

I love mine, but have to many toms.

I have a little bronze hen that I named Smeagol because she is OBSESSED with my ring, more so than the general love of shiny things that the rest have. I use my ring to attract their attention to things, like fresh water, or food and she STOLE it and ran away as fast as she could with my wedding band in her mouth. After a very amusing chase (amusing for anyone watching) I got it back. She was very sad... I have another who is obsessed with the bucket I bring the food in. He/She doesnt want the food, s/he just wants to peck at the bucket. I call him/her "LOLrus" because she squawks when I take her bucket away. "noooo! Dey be takin mah bukkit!!"

Its not that I dont love my turkeys, I do, I think they are hilarious. But whereas having chickens is like watching a cartoon, having turkeys is like being IN the cartoon, which can be a little much...
I am now in the process of deciding who will stay and who will be eaten... So I go around and pick them up one by one saying hmmmmmm.... And trying to judge who is going to be the plumpliest. They think this is very funny and so they keep coming back to be picked up. Since I cant tell them apart I think I just keep picking up the same four?

But I am learning a lot, mostly about what I will do differently next year!!
